Description:
A manuscript map of the north of Scotland, including some of the Orkney Islands, bounded in the south by the River Dee, the upper Spey and Glencoe and in the east by the River Deveron. The map is incomplete, notably north of the Cromarty Firth and south of the Great Glen. Several sheets of paper have been glued together to provide a sheet of sufficient size for the coverage. The map is an uncompleted draft compiled by Robert Gordon of Straloch (1580-1661), at an unknown date after 1633. The circumstances of this particular compilation are not known but it is too large to be copied by an engraver as a single sheet.
