Description:
A small scale map of England, with the east coast of Scotland and southeast Ireland. This map is copied from the second century AD outline and content of the British Isles recorded by Claudius Ptolemy, the Greek astronomer of Alexandria, an outline which oriented Scotland on an east-west alignment. The map names and locates coastal features, rivers, towns and tribal territories. The manuscript is in the hand of Robert Gordon of Straloch (1580-1661), a chorographer who was known to be interested in the history of the Romans in Britain. The exact date of its compilation is not known.
