Description:
A chart of the east coast of Scotland, from Coquet Island in Northumberland to Aberdeen. It is from Pieter Goos, 'The lighting colomne or sea-mirrour' (Amsterdam, 1662) which was first published in Dutch, in 1650.In fact, this map is based on a late sixteenth century chart by Lucas Janszoon Waghenaer, whose charts became so influential that in Britain they came to be known simply as 'waggoners'.Many of the finest 17th century coastal charts of Scotland were the work of Dutch mapmakers. This example was essentially a guide for pilots. It was engraved in Amsterdam by Goos. A chart of the east coast of Scotland, from Coquet Island in Northumberland to Aberdeen.
