Description:
A partial map to a particular purpose, Richard Cooper's map shows what he calls 'The Continent of Scotland' (the mainland and not the western or northern isles). This map was produced to accompany a history of the Church in Scotland from the Reformation to 1568. The regional boundary lines are not accurate and neither are the lines of latitude and longitude. And even on the east coast, Scotland's outline is incomplete.Although he produced several other maps, Cooper is not known to have been trained as a surveyor or map-maker.
